True Blood Season 2 Episode 3

Today, Monday 29 June, we have Episode 3 of True Blood in review. Our writer – Jen Santos, has been suffering the past week with a really bad cold, but yet she still managed to tap away on her ol’ typewriter and get the review done. Good going Jen, and get better soon, honey!!
In today’s episode while driving away from Jessica’s parents house Bill so over-reacted even though Sookie said she was sorry for like a hundred times . And that made Sookie get out of the car ranting. She was then attacked by whatever that was (head of a bull/ body of a man thing). I preferred the book here actually (sorry to say) and did not like that a maenad didn’t attack her as a message to Eric.
So after bill finds her he takes her to Fangtasia sending Jessica home (poor Jessica – she never gets any fun) and there we meet Dr. Ludwig, who explains that she was scratched by something with komodo dragon-like poison but he didn’t know what it truly is. He then proceeds to cure her in a very painful and groosss way (another deviation from the book I didn’t love – I was expecting… well, just not that).
Love that I’m seeing more of Pam and Eric and their quirky relationship! Afterwards, Eric sends Pam to find out what attacked Sookie. Pam refuses saying she’s wearing her good pumps but then gets going cause she is as
Eric says “Lazy but loyal”. Ohh and I loved when she comes back pissed off all dirty with leaves in her hair. Eric just loved that too, lol!
After getting her healing, Sookie wakes up to find Ginger. And after a little bit she finds out (from reading Ginger’s mind) about Lafayette being in the basement. And because this being Sookie she has to meddle, so she goes to find Lafayatte, badly hurt (it sucks that he wasn’t turned. I really wonder what are they going to do with his character).
So Sookie meddles, screaming at Eric and slapping him (it kind of turned him on when she did that) showing us she really isn’t afraid of him at all and how much she hates him.
Eric takes total advantage of the situation and trades Lafayette for Sookie’s help in finding his vampire friend. Plus Sookie gets $10,000 for doing so! If you ask me Eric was robbed although I’m sure he’s not going to leave Lafayette alone – I got this feeling from the totally hot wink (swoon) he gave Lafayette.
Camp from hell it just cracks me up. After having some really disturbing dreams about Eddie and a sharing session with some people in the camp in which session one of the campers describe that she was a living, breathing snack machine ( cruel but kind of funny), we are given hope that Jason is coming to his senses (kind of) about the stupid camp. But then wacko Sarah (we know all she really wants is to have sex with him) convinces him vampires are evil yadda, yadda, yadda.
So Sarah guesses it’s time to invite Jason to dinner with the family so he can be brainwashed some more. We have to admit it is not hard to brainwash Jason cause he’s not that bright and we get proof of that when Newlin tells him that what’s going on out there is a war and Jason then actually looks outside. So Newlin, kind of annoyed, tells him “Not right now!!!”. That was hilarious!
On the plus side Jessica finally meets Hoyt in Merlottes’s. And we find out how cute he is by getting totally nervous around Jessica who is just dying to eat him up, literally. He seems to have no problem with her being a vampire so Jessica takes him to Bill’s house where they just plan on playing some wii (yeah right!!). Things get a little hot but Bill and Sookie walk in ruining all the fun and Bill goes bezerk on them (he is such a party pooper) and like always we don’t know what’s going to happen with Hoyt.
Tara asks Maryann why Sam hates her (like she’s going to tell you, stupid!). Later that night Maryann throws a party
(more like an orgy) with all the people of Bon Temps and Tara finally sees how people are acting all crazy and horny around her. I hope she moves in with Sookie already and forgets about Maryann.
After Sam goes and treats Daphne (who’s doing a sucky-up job at the bar) like trash, he decides on going away (maybe cause of Maryann) and begins packing up, to Terry’s dismay (he calls him a coward). Right before leaving he goes with the Collie that hangs around the bar for a run and ends up swimming in the lake. Daphne finds him and right about when she’s taking her clothes off to get in the lake with Sam, all we can think about is “wait – what’s that on Daphne’s back? Are those scratches??? Is she the maenad or is she the thing with the head of a bull? Or are they the same thing?? … Was MaryAnn the maenad???”.
Ummm, I’m confuseddd!!!! Have to say all this book deviation is really making me crazy. I love the series but this episode didn’t impress me all that much. It had awesome scenes but I guess I was just expecting more. So okay, I like being surprised with the series with some deviation from the book – like Lafayette not dying; but this was too much. There are just sooo many scenes from the book I want too see so hope they don’t cut them all. Part of the problem about reading the books first, I guess.
I’m an Eric fan all the way; I have nothing against Bill, oh wait – I do (no offense to his fans). Those of us who have read the book know he is just not as nice as he seems and sometimes he just over-does it, so ok, I don’t like him too much (I have to be honest) and the series just makes him look like he’s too good to be true.
I’m hating how they are making Sookie prefer cancer to Eric and I hope they don’t take the whole Eric – Lafayette thing too seriously. But after seeing the previews I have high hopes for the next episode (I don’t like that they are waiting another week to show it, but then don’t we all!).
